I researched the battle of Ramseurs mill in Lincolnton N.C. Went out there and there was a nice little road right around to the old mill site. No no tresspassing signs or anything like that and there were no one out there so I got the detector and took a 10 min. walk through the woods. Started getting hits right off , the first two hits were the small ones and I thought they could be old buckshot but I dont think so. Then I got the two bigger ones and some old pig iron. Hopefully there fron that battle. Any opinions??

Most dimes will measure about .703",scaling against the dime, the ball on the left is about .75 caliber, ball on the right is a bit smaller .It is probably a .69-.72 caliber, the small ones are around .45 caliber. If the weight in grains was available a more sure ID could be made. All of the sizes could have come from that time period.

It is hard to asign a date to a round lead ball without other artifacts to confirm the time period.
