Started hunting an old homestead from at least 1869, it shows on a 1869 map. Found the coins at 6 - 8in down along the old front sidewalk. The homestead hasn't been lived in since the 50's according to the owners of the property, there are three farm buildings on the property besides the house that I have permission to detect. Here's the thing, I found a slab of concrete about 12 -15ft behind the house under 5in of weeds. When I run my Ace 250 over it it goes nuts, it comes to life showing hits in all the coins from 1ct - 1dlr, it also shows them being 4 -5in down. I'm wondering if some one didn't place these under there when it was poured. Any one else ever come across something simular? Lots of trash, anyone have any suggestions about a good trash coil for the 250 ?

Strange that would happen. Sounds like rebar to me. But too old for that really...Jackhammer it and see what ya get :tongue3: jgas

Agreed. Most likely the signals are from rebar or other metal reinforcement in the concrete.

I agree with the rebar theory, but, how big is the concrete slab? If it's fairly small it may be covering an old well with a metal upper casing.

If it's small enough you may be able to "lift it" with a bar and fulcrum of some sort.

The concrete pad is roughly 8ft x 5ft. Heres the thing I forgot to mention,it only sounds off in one 2ft x 2ft area, nowhere else.
