Welcome to Tnet! I don't know anything about old chairs, but, I think they're cool looking, especially that dragon chair. What part of N.Z. are you located?

I just took a peek at em...

They look like rosewood... and prolly worth some bucks...

I will also say this... they look sorta dangerous...
They look like they would "tip backwards" fairly easily...
they look like they would only be used "up against a wall"...

So... with this in mind... Try "wall chairs" :)

I am no furniture guy...
I know enough to be dangerous on the subject...
But I have an eye for quality and such.

You really just need to keep up the searches...
maybe ask in an antique Asian furniture forum or the likes if there is such a thing...

If I were to guess... just from knowing what I do know about these things...

Thy are worth researching.

If I have the opportunity to get them for under $100 should I take it? Seems like it's worth the risk.

Yes.

Get them for as low as you can... but I can say this... even in condition they are worth that to many.

In other words... I do not think you can lose.

Welcome!

The dragon chair - somewhere between $75 and $8,500 according to what I see out there.

But apparently the current market value for them is "under $100" because that is what you are being offered them at. Coming here for blind appraisals is risky. But it sounds fair. It's not like your seller is offering Sun Tzu's personal deck chair for extravagant amounts or some such.

Are they comfy?
