Was walking home from the bar tonight and and noticed a sidewalk tearout. My neighborhood is old - built up after the 1871 great fire. I have been waiting for a long time to see some tearouts. A buddy of mine always hits them first and has found old indians and shield nickels but today I must have got to this one first! I actually didn't know there was such a coin! For being nickel I am surprsed it isn't toasted but it was completely black. I tried the boiling water/baking soda trick on it and it helped at least enough to see the date and some details!

Hey, good eye Jason! Nice find!

killer find!!!!!!!!! MR TUFF

That beer looks refreshing. Nice coin also.

Awesome coin Jason. I can recall 3 cent silvers being posted on the Illinois forum but don't think I have seen a nickel one found.

I've seen a bunch more cones getting set up around the area... hopefully more sidewalk tearouts within walking distance.

What did that come up as

Sorry I should have shared that before! I actually forgot what it came up as so I just air tested it and its an 11-3 / 12-4 in the air tests. The last few months I have been digging low tones in hope of gold which is why I went after this... One of the last times I hunted with Mr. Senior he said to dig all 12-4 signals if you want gold. Well haven't found gold yet with the etrac but I'm happy with this nickel piece.
