Last week I got permission to hunt the local farm near my house. Yesterday I spent about 2 hours and came up with 5 wheaties, a 1937, 1942, 1946s, 1951 and a 1953D. I think I also got a silver dime, it's a 1964. And the last thing I found was the iron hook, or at least I think it's View attachment jan 25 2013 1.bmp View attachment jan 25 2013 2.bmp View attachment jan 25 1023 3.bmp a hook. It may be a real big nail that was bent by something..... It's square and tapers from top to bottom.... Any thoughts or ideas...... Thanks.

GOOD STUFF! Q: Do you have a special way of cleaning your cents or is the dirt where you dug these items "kind".those cents look almost as good as the dime& I would assume the iron was bent and used as a hook for maybe picking up hot pots or maybe to hang something fairly heavy on .JUST A GUESS . Hey Davers, I just got lucky with these coins. I hunt a school less than a 1/4 mile away from where I found these, and the pennies come up in really rough shape..... To clean I just use hot soapy water, I read a blog last week that said to use olive oil and let the coins soak for a day of two..... I haven't tried it yet, so I can't comment.....

Thanks for the answer:icon_thumright: I Usually clean my pennies the same as you do / warm water& a 4"L X 1" Hand held brush w medium bristles ,mild soap ,this works on most items I clean like minies~most brass etc. For silver ,gold & Other delicate items warm water & a totally worn out tooth brush or even a make up brush "I learned the hard way " on silver gold buttons & similar items [less cleaning is better in my experience ] Also tried the olive oil method 4 me I'VE left a few Indian & wheat cents soaking in olive oil up to a year or two ,it helped a little but mostly it made them slippery and gave them a lite gloss NOT worth the time in my opinion ;also from exp- NO LEMON JUICE EVEN IF ITS VERY DELUDED W/ WATER IT MADE SOME RUFF 1910-1924 WHEATS LOOK SO BAD I REBURIED THEM IN MY YARD HOPING TO AT LEAST PUT SOME PATINA BACK ON THEM ILL PROBABLY CHECK THEM IN A YEAR OR 2 .Sorry T.M.I. Hope there is some of that "kind" ground here in N. Georgia ..Davers:BangHead:
