Nice find and congrats! Was it found on a saltwater or lake beach or in the water? From your Avatar pic, it looks like you have done very well.

That's a lake find. And hey Frank--I used to fish too, but fish smell!

This scroll motif usually means 50's or earlier. It's 14k, 8.1 gr. , found with the Dual Field.

Thanks kindly guys--it was a hard won find. It came from a very tough environment with lots of dug targets left in the water and very poor sand texture and grade (mostly caps and pins being all that's available). I look for the "collection points" where stuff is knocked over the edge of a berm and stays there. Pins are a good sign--they're steel. These contours can be good post storm. Also, look for the deepest water, closest to shore. It also helps to have an idea of just how deep the marl is and how individual contours relate to this. (Got five from one "hole" that way last year--see pic). Finally, in "sanded in" conditions, always look for the hills--stuff comes out of the sides and as well these indicate that the bottom is changing and working.
Good Luck Detecting!
