I'm guessing these were in a sack awaiting remelting.

When there was a misfire the only way to remove the musket ball or bullet was to attach a screw tip on the ramrod screwing it into the lead and pulling it out of the barrel

Very cool finds! I wonder if they were pulled from dropped rifles at the end of a battle?

I wish so badly I could put the story together.
I actually found a canister shot with grape shot still in it just the other day in the same area.
I'm stressing at the moment because in haste I put it behind a tree during a lightning storm that caught me off guard and managed to leave without it!! I know I know... How the.....???? I'm heading back there tomorrow

That could leave a person guessing. To put a fresh charge in without firing a weapon (besides cleaning after firing to leave loaded again for any amount of time, a noise issue if trying to keep a low profile.) a puller the answer.
A group of weapons after a period of rain or lots of fog on a march easily imagined being reloaded for insurance purposes. Black powder fouling causes corrosion fast if left, black powder will absorb moisture given the chance. So clean and dry is the desired condition. If fired and reloaded during the day for example they should be unloaded and cleaned when time allows before reloading before leaving them sit overnight as that,s enough time to cause problems.
Great finds. Your pipes showing are superb also!

Some nice old finds Gator. Looks like it was a great area. Nice saves on the history. I have never seen so many wormed musket balls. What RevelantChair said makes sense. " Ok everyone reload" ! It's a pain pulling a bullet thats for sure.
