I picked up a Coinmaster 5300D at Goodwill. Can I use rechargeable batteries, and do they have to be C cells?
You can use rechargeable batteries as long as the original & rechargeable are of the same output.
Here is the battery pack for the 5300 & Manual

Thank you for the manual. This came with a rechargeable battery pack, dated 2007. I need to get a 4.8v pack that will work with the contacts on the detector, or solder in an adapter harness

you could also check out Centerville electronics , they are a whites repair shop in Va only $24 bucks from them

Thanks, I just ordered one, thanks for the tip. I have a Garrett Pinpointer from eBay, now I am looking for a digging knife so I can start swinging.
I am pretty excited. I have wanted a detector ever since I was a kid.

mention treasure net and may get a discount , he's a supporting dealer on this site.

check out the leshe hand digger , it's one of the best if not the best.
Good recommendation for a hand digger

I bought a detector from Kellyco in 2008 and received one of their "red handled" Lesche diggers.
The next year on a return trip I returned it as it was worn out.
Grumbling-they replaced it.
It also wore out/bent/cracked within a few months of digging.
I won a real Lesche digger in 2010
13 years of abuse and it's still as good as new (sharpened a few times):headbang:

I went to Kellyco and got their Stuline digger. Lifetime warranty, it says. Was going to get a Predator, but I prefer the double sided serrations.
