Hello All,

Tried a new spot once again and had a great day! Came out with 6 coppers . One is a draped, one is very interesting, on the obverse it is stamped . Looks like over or something(under liberty) can't make it out yet, maybe someone else has seen this. Also found a nice eagle button. Can somebody date this?
Then a really nice 1884 indian head. Also found an old musket ball, small buckles and some buttons.

Can anybody give some advise on how to unbend a completly bent in half button( the one with the holes). What a great start for 2012.

Thanks and HH,

Don

I can't see the date, but my guess is that it commemorated the end of the large cent somehow...Is it an 1856 or 1857?

Neil looks like 18 7. It is very hard to see the 3rd digit but looks like it may be a 5. Any thoughts on the button? I have the Uniform Buttons Of The United States byWarren K. Tice but don't know where to start looking. Is it a uniform button? Thanks

Don
I see your at 1313 mockingbird lane and that's not to far from me, maybe we could get a hunt in?

Your button looks Civil War period, but a picture of the backmark would confirm it.

Thanks for the id. Is this a state button? Would it be in Tices button book if it were before 1865? I cant read the backmark that's why all the questions.

no, it's a union General Service button.. the most commonly found CW button, but a CW relic nonetheless ... I went out this last sunday and was having a pretty uneventful day and found one just like yours and it made my whole day  :icon_thumleft:
