In your second picture, I would be interested in the field to the left of the baseball diamond and that curved dirt road. Hope you can get permission for that, looks closer to the original school then Baseball diamond. EDIT: Ok I am wrong, after looking a second time I see the structure still stands. Its on the far right in second picture. Looks like a good site anyhow

the school is the white Building Down Front

the area Below & to the Left of the Ballfield is owned by a Construction Business.
And that area Where the Curved road leads up Behind is where they Store Clean fill on Occasion

Of course I'm sure allot of old Coins & relics Come In & go out with that Clean fill ,
but I haven't taken the time to ask him about detecting it yet

GREAT site ! I absolutely love places such as that, a LOT of ground to cover, there is my old elementary school that butts up to a park and have spent a lot of time there, finding "hot spots" where there might have been bleachers or a concessions stand at one time...noting that one hot spot will yield newer clad and another with older clad..JUST out of silver range..great pics, as usual, thx for sharing...ddf

I remember rings like the one you found. Nice pics Jeff. I am very ignorant about " steering caps and pigeon shoots". Can you give some history? Thanks.

Back circa 1930's, 1940's there were allot of Live Pigeon Matches here in Schuylkill County PA.
These Matches had Big Time Betting going on.
I believe the matches actually date back to the 1890's

the Pigeons for the most part were barn Pigeons, But there were also Trainers who
Brought their Pigeons to the Matches, & if there was Big Money on a Particular Match
the trainer would be paid on the side to Slip a ringer in.

These trainers would tie a Few Bottle Caps to the Birds leg or wing,
And if most of the birds were leaving the Traps and heading right,
the trainer knew just how to tie them to the bird to make it take a sharp left.

At least at this particular Field The Trainer used Brand New unused bottle Caps.
If you look at the edge of the cap you can see it was never fastened to a bottle.
I also find caps with Square Holes & string occasionally.

I used to think they trained their Pigeons before the Matches, But occasionally
I also find Pigeon bands with them, so they must have tied the steering caps
on at the matches on occasion

Just having a place that looks like that is worth something to me. A beautiful place and lots of potential!

About that frustration turning into a ring, though, just how does that work? I have LOTS of frustration to turn! ;)

Yep, Mercury's and Walkers, lots of possibilities at that spot,
Good luck buddy

Yea I believe My oldest U.S. coin found there was a Shield Nickel.
I got a Chinese Cache Coin ,barber dime there also & Mercs & a Walker.

Must be more goodies, But I'm not swinging over them lately :(

some of the wheats were barely within range of my Explorer SE also.
So My guess there are plenty of coins at Depths I can't hear

Trying to figure out how to say this...in the first post the school looks pretty old, in you next post (reply #3) it looks like an old garage ?

In any case with it beeing a school I may have expected more, but then again I remind myself this is hunting, and not "gathering" as I only managed 28 cents yesterday :laughing7: and nothing at all from the spot I had originally targeted.

Good luck out there.

Good luck out there.

the first few times there it was productive.
but all of a sudden it dried up and the finds became fewer and weaker.
that's not to say it's done, it just takes allot more work and luck.
or at least till someone gets in there with something deeper and more sensitive
