A Curious Ring.. I just can't date it.

I've been lucky to be able to hunt virtually everyday for a few hours within walking distance from my home, just around noon when the sun has been out and cooperative. Otherwise, its just too cold to enjoy it. Everyday I get a couple of keepers, coins, wedding rings, religious pendents, etc. and have no trouble dating them...

This ring I found today, though, is curious to me. It is handmade, not cast, and 1.5" long..The style I know, even my wife has something similar in silver from India or Middle East. What makes it curious is that it's copper, and I have never seen a copper ring made in modern times of this quality. The land is in Italy, and it could be from anytime from yesterday to Roman times around here. Any help in dating this ring would always be appreciated.

The local people DID NOT have this level of style for as far back as a few hundred years and yet the condition doesn't say it is much older..Any ideas?

What you have there I think is a saddle ring but not seen one made of copper nicefind

I was thinking a Saddle Ring too.. The open bottom is common for 1930's or 1940's maybe as early as the 1920's This is an educated guess so I could be wrong but. I don't think i'm that far off, great find.

Thanks all for your relies. The condition does make me feel it's from the early to mid 20th century. The copper throws me off, though, because except for poor people's wedding rings, I have never seen copper used in old jewelery in Europe....Live and learn.... Wifey suggests it was made in copper to guard against Rheumatism, a possibility for sure. It's just that in the rural mountain area I am in, jewelery was plain, austere, let's say boring, which this ring is not....I love curious finds.

Funny you mention that. I found around 5 thimbles in the same area of the forest, and always wondered what sewing thimbles were doing there. Then yesterday I came across a seller of things, that look like Metal Detecting finds, and he has listed 3 thimbles, just like mine, as Archer's thingy's. I find a lot of bullets, casings, and other hunter's bits all the time, so your idea might not be so off. Though this style of ring is ancient as ornamental jewelry, too.
