Went to a newly discovered cellar hole (by me anyways :P), one of the oldest cellar holes I've been too. Did a total of probably 5 hours at this site, walked away with a few keepers and managed some small gold :hello2:. Finds are 2 wheaties (1912,1918), 2 buttons (one is fairly old and has a nice elegant design on it, shank is gone on it), and the best find a small gold ring. I think the ring was already broken and don't believe I hit it while digging. No markings or makers mark on the ring, weighs a total of 0.5 grams 8-).

Congrats on some terrific recoveries. It would be great to learn more about that ring, maybe someone will chime in. That top photo confuses me because of the darkness inside the band, right at the break. Is there a chance it was plated?

That is the smallest ring I have ever seen! It has to be old!

Thanks for the congrats :), I noticed that dark spot on the ring as well. I believe it's possibly some solder from an old repair job on the ring, I got a couple more close ups of the dark spot. I tried to get some pictures of the inside of the ring, but it's so thin my camera had trouble focusing on it :(.

Is the "solder" really soft?

Sort of soft, I can flake some of it off and the gold color is under the "solder".
