A few finds today

Got out on a few small hunts with my Uncle Jeff of PA today. Found a 3 wheat pocket spill (1944, 1944 & 1936), two memorial pennies and an unknown Valley Forge PA 1777-78 item. We thought it was a whistle but upon cleaning found the small metal piece in the end, any ideas? House where this was found it VERY VERY old.

I still believe it's a Whistle Buddy .
The piece in the end may have been what made it work.
Since it's not the type that would have a Ball in it.

it's odd to me it is for particular years 1777-78

I think it's a whistle also. The winter camp at Valley Forge was during the winter of 1777-1778, hence the dates.

That is a cool wistle looking thing, but with the plce and date engraved on it like that, I would lean towards it being more modern like possibly a suvenier type item.
