Hello all! I got out for a relic hunt today at a spot that's been beat but still giving (my buddies did much better than me today...) Man was it hot, I'm exhausted! Anyways, I didn't find too much. Some round balls, 1910 wheatie, pocket knife, a couple buttons & what not. In really curious about this copper piece I found. It appears to have a design which is partly gone. It almost looks like a tree. I had a buddy suggest its a lantern part but not so sure about that... Any help is appreciated, I'll post in what is it as well. Thanks for looking & HH!

That's what it looks like at first glance but don't think so. I've dug plenty of those but this seems to have served a different purpose?:icon_scratch:

I have had a lot of those lanterns over the years and it does look like a wick holder. It's still got the metal tube that turns against the wick pulling it up.

We called them typhoon lanterns in the philippines. We would burn coconut oil in them. My grandfather in florida had several. We used them during hurricanes and tropical storms.

I don't know, the "tube" is pretty flat... There was also a piece that broke off that went over the hole... I have dug them before but this strikes me as different. A couple of veteran relic hunters were with me & they didn't think it was from a lantern. Sometimes it's hard to truly represent an item in photos vs. real life.
