I know, I could see it from outside the display case. If you notice the gold has a burnished look to it. Pure gold will not tarnish, but being they are 14K and alloyed with a percentage of copper and maybe silver they will oxidize a little. I've seen this on very old uncleaned gold before and it makes the gold look more like old brass. I believe that's how they got over looked. They had a whole tray of cufflinks priced pretty much all the same. These were just simply over looked. Once I came across in an antique shop a bunch of thimbles and in them all one looked like a gold one. I asked to see it and it was marked 14K way up inside on the backside of the top of the thimble. It was 6 bucks like all the other thimbles in the lot. It was made by Simon Bros. and weighed just over 4 grams. It sold well over scrap at around $140. on eBay I think I got on it. My favorite out of all is the Hamilton military watch. I've had it running for a couple days now and I synchronized it with a radio control wristwatch I have and it's keeping up pretty spot on with the atomic clock transmission sent from Boulder Colorado where I live only 15 miles from. I once had a military issue watch of almost the same made by Benrus, but I sold it and I've been kinda kicking myself over doing that. I got this one for $15. and it'll be added to my personal collection for a long time.

Nice finds. I've been meaning to do a thrift store run myself. The regular garage sales have been slow for a good while. May as well try something old and familiar. Maybe tomorrow I'll do the local circuit since I'm off.

20 plus years ago you could find one every 3 month it seems. The last men's gold wristwatch I found below value before this one was in a pawn shop. It's a Longines diamond dial white 14K case they let me have for 90 bucks and that was maybe 3 years ago now. This Hamilton was marked on the inside of the case and I did open it easy enough and lift the movement to see that before I bought it and I would have gave the 10 bucks even if it were a GF case. About the only thing wrong is the missing hour and sub second hand, but the movement runs pretty strong and the dial is rather nice for the age which I determined by S/N was made in 1937. Overall I lucked out on this due to the dealers lack of knowledge and no watch buyers coming in before me. I have to say these good finds seem to run like a gamblers luck. When you hot your hot and when your not your not. I'll be on the road week after next going through Utah and Northern Nevada. I'll let ya know if my winning streak is still in the groove.

Garage sales around here are pretty sad. Hit all the places antique malls, hospice, humane society and church run thrift stores and don't forget pawn shops.
