I got out Thursday for about 5 hours and had some good luck. I found a nice Scraper right off the bat and then about 20 minutes later I found a bunch of broken of pieces of sandstone right along the ridge line and I have a feeling it may have been a Box Burial. There lots of Bone in the area and I found the 2 3/4 inch black Knife and the Copper Piece right in the middle of all the pieces. The Knife is very well made and the Copper piece has a groove etched all around the inside edge. It may be a washer, but to me it looks like a ornament of some kind. I also found 2 Triangle Points within inches of each other and a really nice Shell Barrel Bead.

Enjoy the pics. I got a great in situ of the black Knife.

Pictures 7 and 8 show the 2 Triangles that were inches apart just to each side of the stone.

Here's some cleaned up pictures. I'd really like some opinions on the Copper piece. Is it an Ornament or just a washer?

The copper piece looks like a grommet to me. Who knows how it got there.

Thats knife blade is super awesome as well as the in-situ!!!! The copper piece looks too perfect to me. May have fallen off a farm implement of some type! I hope I'm wrong! What is the rock in the last pic?

Sweet Knife and great insitu. I have seen copper spools but they are larger. That looks to be half a brass grommet. Be easy to see if it was brass or copper. U r right though, great hunt. I have not seen a slate box burial. Are they surface or maybe 2'deep ?
Nice finds.

I've never seen a washer warped like that. I think it might be something.
Washers aren't typically made of copper unless they are used as some kind of bearing.

Great finds SRV! I have black knife (purchased, not a personal find) that's nearly identical to that one - I love it! I can't believe that was a field find and complete!

Thanks for the replies guys and gals.

I've showed the Copper piece around and I guess it's actually Brass and more then likely a Grommet like a few have said. Oh well, I was hoping.

ohioaxeman, the rock in the last picture is the bit end off of a small Celt. It would been a dandy if all there.
