With Marbles!!
Yesterday I woke to a fresh coating of snow on the ground. I surrendered to the fact that I would not get to metal detect in January, 2018. No metect detecting doesn't mean, No Treasure Hunting.
I purchased and moved into this old farmhouse in July, 2017. Lots of repair work and alterations. My latest steady project has me installing a new bathroom downstairs. That means I have to eventually run a soil stack vent up into the attic and through the roof. So into the attic I went. TREASURE HUNT!!
This house was built in 1905. I have been able to uncover some information about the people who owned and lived here, from 1945 to 2004.
Prior to buying and settling into this house, the owner, Mr. H, served in The 10th Mountain Division during WWII. The 10th gave Hitler's boys a real bad time in the snow covered Alps in Italy. Mr. H. was wounded and returned as a decorated hero. One of the first items I spotted in the attic was a WWII German Officer's M43 Cap. A little dusty, but cool. It was probably a souvenir.
Mr. And Mrs. H. raised a boy and a girl in this house.
I pulled down 6 or 7 boxes from the attic that were loaded with toys, boardgames, and books.
I really like the well preserved English Dorky car and the little yellow Tootsie Toy. Most of the toys are 50 or 60's era. So that's my Treasure Hunt for January. If we keep getting snow, I may have to go look in the Barn loft. LOL

ATW, I am drooling! What a super stash of vintage toys. The box of plastic cowboys, etc... can be parted out and sold on fleabay. I see figures and vehicles by Auburn, Marx, Rel, Timmee Toy, Lido, MPC, etc...They are highly collectible. Congratulations! Sub 8-)

That’s awesome! Look for insulation that may have been disturbed. Maybe something hidden. I was tracing wires in blown insulation in my attic. Feeling around in that stuff I felt something funny. Pulled it up and it was a sweet swift wing recurve bow. Brought it to a shop to get it strung and was offered $300 for it.

Looks like many of the marbles are vintage Marble King "patch & ribbon" types. Most date from the 1950s and early 1960s. The green and yellow ones are Girl Scouts (scarce ), worth $6 to $8 apiece in mint condition, less if they are beat up. I see five of those in the pic. Nice! There are some older ones in the pic as well- maybe a red & white Akro corkscrew?

Well done, indeed! 🙌 And I had that Fort Apache playset, too. 😁 And the green boat looks AWFULLY familiar...may have had that, too.

might want to do some additional research on the M43. The eagle and swastika is characteristic of SS in shape, and the Totenkopf is seen on both panzer and SS unit headgear. What a GREAT find in your attic!

If it was loaded with cash,, I certainly would not post it on a Forum.

Nice score. Those doll clothes are probably worth more than the doll. Looks like you can put a dent in the cost of the new bathroom. Good luck.

I'd be putting some of those finds up on Ebay. When we moved into our current house I found a 1974 GI Joe Adventure Training Center (missing a couple pieces) in the original box (up in the attic) back in 1997 and it sold for $85.
