While visiting friends in Virginia for 4 days, I got permission to detect an old farm next to them. I did this house on the backside last year and found 6 Mercs and Roosevelts and a pile of Wheats, but I wanted to go it again to see what I missed. I found 8 Wheats and a 1948 Roosevelt and 3 old Jefferson nickels 38, 39, and 41. After spending most of my time behind the house, I went out front for about an hour and found three older Wheats, 1919s,1912, 1920, a 1911 V nickel, a whatsit, and an old token from the 20's and 30's that says good for one package of mints. My research on it shows it was used in a slot type vending machine or a slot machine. AS you can see the soil there is not kind to coins, but still really enjoyed the hunt. Any idea on the whatsit would be greatly appreciated. It appears to be brass. Happy hunting and thanks for looking.
