A question for Florida guys. (lithics)

I'm having a hard time placing what type of material my point is made of. It sure doesn't appear to be coastal plains or Ocala formation ..the vein is almost quartz like or agate... light blue and pale white. Any thoughts? Compressed algae? I see zero fossil inclusions.

The material is dark grey. I'm thinking its not what you mentioned. What's the proper name for that material?

That's the other side of the point with the rest of the finds from that day. The dark end scraper next to it is chert and is alot different... all are chert/Flint but that point is different than anything else I've found.

the color could due to age/patina than what it originally looked like..... seen a lot of dark colors variations (black, grey, blue) from water, salt and fresh.
Guess you know most patina in the entire state is white, LOL!~!!

Grey, well I have been finding grey cobbles in the field. 2 so far that are big about softball size. Here is one and yes it is just a rock after you see it I will take it down if you like. Just say so and it will be gone. Bist has it and maybe we can see the inside of it if you think it is a match. The other one is still in the field.

Oh.. your rock is banded rayholite.

If it is patina.. two things make me question.. why no patina on the vein.. and it's completely even everywhere. I mean no build up or break anywhere in it. I wish I was in better light to take a photo. Just keep in mind this is a lightbulb casting yellowish light.

There is even A few small hinge fracture Pieces still on it Completely uncovered With no color change in the material.

Odd that almost looks like Ft.Payne chert. I have seen samples with the bluish white streaks in it like your point. Are you close to the panhandle?

Not near the panhandle. I think Ft. Payne chert is brown. I am going to take a photo outside. Not sure the trade network was that widespread during the middle archaic. The material in the vein on that looks alot alike.

I looked at alot of Fort Payne examples .. it is very similar. Pretty unlikely though. There is tons of high quality Florida material not far from the area this was found. Besides the corals in the Tampa area.. I know of.
Coastal plains chert,Suwannee River chert,Baybottom,Hillsborro,Wacissa and Williston types.

Real close... It would not surprise me if there was a Ft.Payne source or a material that is closely associated and formed the same way as Ft.Payne. Could be a traded source as well. Close enough for it......

I agree. It may be a different formation but the..... "ingredients in the soup"..... must have been nearly identical. The material in the vein looks exact.
