A silver "merc" that almost wasn't...and other old finds

Hi :hello:

Slim pickins continue for me in the jewelry category, but those "oldies" keep showing up.

Got out for a couple of hours before the rain started today.....high tide so it was a dry sand hunt.

Here's some pics of old finds from a very old beach

Was in the process of discarding the very encrusted coin until I took a closer look.

I think it must have been laying directly on or under some iron ...never saw silver with such a rusted encrustation.

Thanks for looking

Lorraine

Was the spoon silver? Or copper? Nice old finds, keep it up. It should be getting cool up there. Or in Florida we would call it freezing!

Silver plated, Steve

Yes, the cooler trend is starting; parts of the day are warm and sunny...then suddenly cloudy, windy, and cool.

You get a lot of bleed thru on old silverware exposed to various kinds of salt. They turn pretty green in the fields also. Looks like by the old dime you are in a good spot.

Nice finds Lorraine...I would have lost a bet that
the Merc dime was salvageable but you did a great
job on it. Well done...... Gold Nuggets :hello:

Thanks, Les...the coins are usually easy to clean, but the silver plated spoons that I 've been finding are so old with all the silver gone ...I just keep them "as is " for conversation purposes with friends. Would love to find an antique spoon in good condition....maybe next time :icon_sunny:
