have a 250 and it's really bothering me one day I rock next day i want to fire it as far as i can... Problem if i power up the sens. above 2 bars it's like a pinball machine bing bing all over the board. i run in jwelry mode and also custom with all but silver tagged out and I get iron and pulltabs pinging even though it's notched out. what gives? my coil cord is taped straight up the shaft so that shouldn't give me false signals.
i live in Duluth minnesota ground is not really mineralized as far as i know mostly regular dirt and clay. Or i get a decent signal go back over it and it's bouncing every where Iron, $1 izinc, pulltab .10, .05 then i just want to toss it as far as i can. pinpointing not much of a problem have that down pretty good. Truthfully i'm about ready to give it up christ i'd have abs of steel if i dug every bouncing ping.

Yep mine was doing the same thing yesterday but I new i was over underground cables for the lights of a ball park try some place like a open soccer field. some times the side lines can be hot. If all the suggestions you get domt work you may want to send it back to garretts.

Some days are just like that. try a different location, totally. As to batteries, my ace acted funny the one time i ran them down all the way. But I have run hours on just 2 bars with no problems. wish I had a better answer for you. I have considered sending my ace 250 to garretts because in spite of everyone elce's statements of coins to 8 inches, I have never been able to lock on to any coin over about 4 inched deep.
From reading the forum for 6 months now I think each ace 250 is it's own machine no two alike but most people like them, me to except for the lack of depth in mine.
Another thing if I go over something big iron or alum, it will ping silver first pass and jump to iron, I never dig any thing that will not repeat and then pinpoint small.
As for me this year I am saving every thing for a DFX or V3, more than one frequency has to be better at identifying than one. It may take awhile but last year the ace found me about $350.oo and about 30 silver rings.

good luck and dig it like a pirate .

yea i'm thinking about upgrading myself to a minelab 505 or 705 i don't know, i like what i read about the ace but it's never really been good to me. went out last nite again, and it was driving me nutz with the pinging on items that are notched out. being a common man if it's notched out it should not beep on a iron, aluminum pulltab etc...but it does and swing back over it then it doesn't but the digital shows it was iron. why did it? or my favorite bouncing all over the place. maybe i should call garrett it just doesn't seem right in my book or maybe i'm just that big of a newie that i don't get it.

allrite so here we are as i said above i switched batteries and i got casino jackpots everywhere. now those batteries have run down to half charge according to the battery meter on the ace, and it's running fine a litlle binging on notched items but far and in between. 2 things-- should the batteries be holding a better charge, maybe 1.5 hours total and they are half spent running at sens. at 2 or 3 bars. and 2 it seems when i put fresh batteries in my problems start falsing on notched items and erratic jumping between items. any ideas

partly depends on the batteries, I get about 12 to 16 hours at least, out of energizers. about the other stuff I think it is time for you to call Garretts
