Advice for Relic Hunting “Don’t Throw Nothing Away”®
I got permission to hunt a Christmas tree farm where an old barn and corral used to be. I pulled up a piece of copper but couldn't’t make out what it was. When I got home I washed it and then could see it was folded. When I un-folded it I saw it was an OLD tiger or lion pin. It is copper with some trace of gold on it which is typical of early jewelry. It just goes to show you that unless you can POSITIVELY identify something in the field DON'T TOSS IT. I dug a zinc Mason Jar lid with the glass insert at about 10 inches. I found to 2 old Levi’s rivets that have LS & CO SF embossed on them. I found a 1928 date nail in a railroad tie fence post. I found some old shotgun shells and 3 pennies and a piece of chert (it is also an old Indian site). I worked it for about 3 hours. It is nice with the trees because it makes a perfect grid. I’ll be back.
