I met Mike downtown for a couple hours of detecting tonight after work. Mike got permission to hunt the lawns of a couple older houses. Mike ended up with two Merc dimes and some wheat cents! I ended up with five wheats and no silver coins . . . . . but I did get an UGLY piece of jewelry marked STERLING. This has got to be the ugliest thing I've ever seen! The only thing good about it is that it's marked STERLING! DAMN SHE'S UGLY!! . . . . . reminds me of my first girlfriend. LOL

Don't melt, you never, ever, know what the value of jewelery. What's looks like crap now might have looked good back then, and may look good again in the future. Research the hallmark, you never know... Kool find,
CurbdiggerCarl

Not that it looks like crap, just something that may have belonged to that "Village People" cowboy dude.

Some kind of badge maybe? I think it's cool. Looks like someone liked it at some point in it's life.

You call this ugly then you must not be familiar with the works of Vincent Van Gogh. Now his stuff was butt ugly yet it sells for millions, go figure. Post it at e-bay in both the jewelery and art areas to see what the market will bear. Even if you don't research it before hand you should get a ruff Idea of it's value from the experts there, if you don't wanna sell it then just make sure you set a rediculous high minimum bid amt. Like $1.00 :D

Looks like a more recent artist made piece. I would not be so quick to dismiss it or melt it. Researching the backmark may not be easy, but it might pay off. I would offer you melt price for it plus postage in a heartbeat. Nice find.

Yea don't melt it until you find out more about it. Like curbdiggercarl57 said it could be by some famous artist.

Ugly find, it would look much better melted down but. You would be upset if it was worth $10,000 and you melted it down.

Keep @ it and HH!!
