Thought I'd fancy another walk today. But, it was soooo hot! Have to be a short one! :)

Sooooo, with all these choices, which one to try? My oh my! Which one?

I KNOW! I'll go to where I just found my oldest silver ever! ;) LOL

And, so, off to zip city. Didn't take too long for me to figure this was going to be tough.
Not only sooo hot but it's not easy going back out to find stuff while one's feet are still off the ground. ;)

Anyhoo, the detectorist powers found a way to show me that history is history and going forward still holds
it's own wonders. No matter how big or how small. :)

Here's the bulk:

2015 (327).jpg
2015 (328).jpg

The middle row is a nickel, a Canadian penny and some toasted something that is razor thin! :)

2015 (329).jpg

:dontknow:

2015 (330).jpg

Another small surprise. 190_ , toasted but still neat.

So, it got too hot and I started "meandering toward the car" and at the end
of one of the swings I caught a slightly higher tone. So, I moved over and
sure enough, solid 84-87. Good! At least I can get one more clad quarter!

But, when I dug, it was deeper. Same signal, a little louder. Hmmm.
I scooped out a couple more times.

2015 (323).jpg

Funny, it didn't seem this deep!

I look in and figure my eyes were deceiving me. Heat and all that.

2015 (324).jpg

Is that what I think I see?

2015 (325).jpg

It is! It's an unmistakable form!!

I was shocked and I truly expected to see something like U.S. looking at me
when I flipped it over! Did I FINALLY find a plate!?!?

2015 (326).jpg

Well, ummm, not exactly. But this is a rather strange piece and
a wonderful something to have as an exit find. I laughed at the
"joke" on me. Cleaned up and went home. LOL

2015 (332).jpg 2015 (333).jpg

Here it is after it's bath. AND, that's not a double. That is a front and back pic! LOL

2015 (334).jpg

Anyway, it's brass/bronze near as I can tell. Non-magnetic and it weighs over 2 ounces!!

I'm too tired to figure it out. I'll let you guys do the research tonight. Maybe I'll try tomorrow. :dontknow:

Maybe this will be the one where somebody says, WHADIFIND!?!?!? DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU GOT THERE??!?!? ;)
LOL

Thanks for peeking!

That is the first thing I thought too. Sure seems like a heavy and fancy piece for a cow though. Don't it. ;)
Thanks!

Hmmmmmm maybe that's why! There was a McDonalds token right nearby. Guess he didn't need it anymore. ;)

Yep Whadi, a cattle tag for sure and congrats on that one! I found one a couple of months ago as well.

As far as the heat goes, someone photographed me digging those rings today...

The dirt gets a little hard around here when we go for a week without rain.

Glad you had a fun hunt in the heat like I did...Sub 8-)

It just dawned on me. This thing would make an excellent "bell". Or at least a good clapper for a nearby crotal or cow bell. Even a couple tags clanging together would make a heck of a racket! LOL

Now, short of carbon dating, how might one tell just how old this was? After all, that ground has already given up an 1812. :)

Yep, years ago, cattle would have a chain with the tag around their necks. They didn't put them in the ears. With your area, a plate just might show up under your coil. Is that next on your bucket list?

That's the thing about a bucket list. There IS no "next". That's because there's no order. I'll know the "next" one, when I unwrap that Christmas present. :)

Nice cow tag! And other finds.
So how is the digging from up there?

Your still smiling and the walks are adventures! That next great find is there...just under the dirt.
Hope you've got your bottle of water while you're out there.

Looks like you picked the right site to hunt finding a Sweet old cow tag!!

I found a cattle ear tag earlier this year that happened to be from the grandfather of the present owner of the property from the early 1900's.

Neat finds! :hello2: :headbang: :hello2:

Can't help but ask "Did you recheck the hole after digging the cow tag?" Maybe it's just my coffee talking, but m-a-y-b-e there's something else there! :icon_thumright: Andi

Well, this particular place goes from wet to dry pretty quick. Trouble is, there's lots of rocks in the soil too. It does make it tough.

The water is never too far away. Usually in the car. But, when it gets hot, I just try to stay in the shade.

Yeah, this is just a cow tag but, man! Look at it! It's huge! And heavy! LOL

Thanks!

I hear ya....just the same as gold! Unexpected is just as exciting!

Usually when I dig those large loud signals, it's a can, or a large pipe, but one day I will be surprised!.....just hope it doesn't go boom, or bite! Lol!
