The blade on this one is just wow.
This is a rare takouba variant.
I have seen many takouba but only a handful with pommel and guard in this style.
The cross on the guard is such a nice detail on this peice..
Very well built and usable the last one I got was much more a chopper...

The precise origin of this variant has not yet been established. West Africa? 19c? Blades are often older than fittings on these.
I can give more info about the Huasa variant I posted...you should check it out.

This variant I will try to find where I found someone else talking about it. He said he saw evidence of unique forging techniques in his example... And I see similar here.. maybe a inserted edge? Something like that. I'll try to get the info

Okay about this sword.
It is smaller and has been suggested is is more for foot soldier use. Or younger individuals.
Nobody knows.
Most takouba are large single handed broad swords used with a shield and on horse back. Not nimble like this smaller one. Most takoubas have relatively flat blades .
This one has a big "" taper .

The observations about the blade
Someone made about a Hausa variant actually. I got a little mixed up...

The details here

My buddy informs me the cross is likely not religious but likely for the 4 cardinal directions and has tribal meanings beyond that.
