Howdy Yall... I've been asked by alot of people what I like most about metal detecting. One of the answers is the suprise find and todays is a good example. I made my way back to the city lots I started on Friday. I started the grid where I left off and was finding nothing but clad and trash. I did manage to pluck a wheat. After a couple hours it started to get dark. At this time I was In the backyards where the houses use to be and Last Friday I was have more luck in the frontyards. I started towards the car doing the opposite direction of the grid I did Friday. I found a nice tone and plucked another wheat. It's getting darker and can barely see my screen. Thinking a wheat is good enough to leave on when I get another good tone. It doesn't sound trashy so I go ahead and dig it. Man am I glad I did. I find the coin thinking It's a quarter but it has a green patina to it. Throw it in the pouch and make my way home.

After cleaning everything else up I grab a toothpick and start working this find. They say you learn something new everyday and here is mine. I have never seen this coin nor did I know of their existence. I think I have found a early, decent example of one. Plus the history of how they came about. Once again the 19th century coin has eluded me but I'll keep on swinging the coil searching for one. Thanks for looking and HH.
