Last night I was cleaning up NJLargeCent's and my bounty (mostly junk) from last weekend's hunt. Early in my day, I unearthed 2 Lincoln pennies, and then got a third penny that was twisted and toasted. Oh well, another Lincoln I thought and tossed it in my "keeper" pouch. Last night while throwing out the junk and saving the keepers to my jar (all clad coins are keepers btw), I looked a little more closely at this twisted piece of toast. On the reverse, I noticed I could read "one cent" and the Lincoln Memorial was NOT present. Dude! Could it be another Flying Eagle? A Wheatie? So I gently cleaned it off and on the front side was able to reveal, very faintly, the points of the head dress from an Indian Head penny. Sweet! While this may be a common find for many of you, this is my first Indian. The pic below may not be proof enough, but I assure you it is identified. He's now soaking in olive oil and I will check back in a week or two to see if I can make out a date. Pretty stoked though!

Score! Now all you need to find is a large cent and you'll have all the U.S. one cent design lineage checked off your finds list.

Gotta love those unexpected finds! WTG!

IH arnt all that common any more. Congrats on another first.

Thanks guys. TICM, he's in oil with the eagle, as per your suggestion. I'm hoping to reveal a date... otherwise the coin is almost U-shape.

Well your not going to spend that one either.

That actually made me laugh out loud.

Congrats on a first. Don't worry you'll find more (seeing where your from) and a better one too.
I can see the "8" quite plainly in your picture.

Funny, I didnt see the 8 till you said this! I can't wait to take it out of the oil to see how that helps. Hoping to find more tomorrow!

I threw away what I thought was an aluminum top. My buddy picked it up cleaned and said what is this three marry widows thing in your trash bucket..... it was a 30's condom holder.. be carful what you throw away.
