We were out driving and noticed a dump on B.L.M. land so we checked it out. Nothing older than the 40's so we were heading back to the car when I saw something that stopped me in my tracks. there lying in the dirt road was what sure looked like a human hand. It was fresh too with a little tissue still on the knuckles. I got down and compared it to my hand and the bones matched exactly with my finger bones in length and width. The tips of the fingers were missing as well as the thumb. We debated for a half hour then decided we better call the sheriff. They came out and cordoned off the area and took our statement. We got home and our internet was down so we could not do a search of animal skeletons.
The next day we found out that it was a small bears paw. It turns out the bear and Humans have very, very similar bones in the hand and foot. It happens all the time that even the police are fooled. Whew! Glad it wasn't a person.
