This is some examples of what the Native Americans did with stone from their quarry site.
This is a photo of all the steps side by side, from the quarry site to transportation size, to the finished product ready to haul back home.
This is a piece that was found in the old quarry site. Sorry I posted it twice
This was found in the valley below the quarry site at a camp site, only 2 inch's down.
This last piece was found 1 1/2 foot down in a layer of sand under a thick layer of charcoal, along with broken piece's, JMO I think they heated the stone at the camp so in case some broke during the heat treating they had not carried stone all the way back home that was no good to them
#1 spall at the quarry site #2 reduced to that size and brought off the mountain #3 spalls placed in the ground and heat treated, you can see the gloss from heating. The 2nd stage piece was a throw away due to the fact that it would not chip good. It's something about the black stone, some of it just will not chip at all. Never found 1 pottery shard in this camp site, JMO they did not transport pottery with them on quarry trips.
