Could they be some type of Chlorine Cakes Placed there by the EPA ?

Sort of like Toilet Bowl Cakes, Because of some possable contamination.

WOW, THOUGHT THIS ONE WOULD BE EASY FOR YOU GUYS! THEY ARE CONCRETIONS. A PIECE OF STONE A STICK, ABUG, A MINERAL DEPOSIT SITS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE RIVER AND THE WATER SWIRLS AND SWIRLS AND THE SAND STICKS AND STICKS AND HUNDREDS OF YEARS LATER YOU GET NEAT FORMATIONS OF ANIMALS, FINGERS, SOMETIMES EVEN ANCIENT INDIAN WINDOW CRANKS.
TOOK A WHILE TO FIND ON THE NET MOST CONCRETIONS ARE FROM THE WEST AND HUGE.
WAS PRETTY EXCITED WHEN I FIRST STARTED FINDING THEESE, NOW THEY ARE FUN TO SEE WHAT PEOPLE THINK THEY ARE. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU RUB THEM AND THE SAND COMES OFF ON YOUR FINGERS.
NEXT TIME YOUR IN THE RIVER LOOK AROUND!!

all the concreations I've seen have been iron based so they don't look anything like that- none of those around here, next time you're up here look around. ;D

I have to agree with Countrygirl here, looks like concretions - especially since the sand comes off if rubbed. Interesting anyway, great for the "whatzis?" display cabinet to get the kids to wondering!

Nature does some strange things sometimes,
in our local rivers, the action of the sand & water scouring some rocks
creates a (River Polish), most of the Indian points have a shine,
here is a rock that has the shine, top pic, & the bottom is plain.

Found this in the South Canadian, in OK, we also find
agates, pet wood, fossilized bones, mastadon bone & teeth,
fossilized turtle shells, buffalo skulls, all kinds of bones,
(including ancient Indian), which we don't collect.
The finds are very rare nowdays, most were found after a big
flood had washed them out several years ago.

Fossis...............
