Well, I went out this morning for a little while. My intention was to mess with the different Ground Filter settings on the DFX, and see which one gave me the best depth. I intentionally picked a spot that has been well hunted over the years, by myself and many others. The area is historically significant, dating back to the 1680's when it was settled by colonists who came over from Ireland on the same ship as Mark Newby. (Mark Newby is famous for importing the St. Patrick copper coins, which were the first legal tender in New Jersey.)
Since my intention was only to test the different filter settings, I was ignoring most trash signals, and as is usual for this site, I dug some bent modern coins. I got a fairly strong 79-81 VDI on the DFX with a depth at about 8 inches. I would estimate I dug about 10 or 11 inches in hard packed soil with my trusty Lesche before I was able to pinpoint & recover this copper.
Unfortunately it is slightly bent, and the reverse is badly corroded. It looks like it may be another Connecticut Copper but I am not sure. It is approximately 27.8mm in diameter, and weighs 87.1gr. Any ID is appreciated!
