Another Crewman's Badge (S21 Stainless).

Got out for a short time Sunday and found another crewman's flight badge worn by WW2 Army crewmen and present day AF Crewman and is made of S21 stainless steel as the markings depict. This makes my second crewman’s badge, the other one is sterling. This one will go along with my silver pilot badge and the silver crewman’s badge, the beginnings of a collection. I also came out with a couple of junk rings and a lead solder and several wheat’s and the other stuff. I figured I wouldn’t post the other stuff but here's the badge.

Great find! I was a Air Force Navigator and my wings had some difficulty staying on the uniform. They stick out and the little friction clips on the back don't do a great job.

I don't believe the S21 stands for stainless steel. I believe it is a part number. Stainless is usually marked "stainless", or , 304, or, 316, or 18-10, etc. . It is very difficult and expensive to cast stainless steel. Especially with that level of detail. A process they did not have in the old days.

Hey ant! Great find. I gotta box of old military silver badges from WWII and I love em all. The wings in you pic appear to be later that WWII as I believe the insignia in the center of the wings is the USAF seal. Would be after WWII as the air farce was the United States Army Air Corps until after WWII.
