This field is next to a major Roman Site & it had a pretty nice looking cropmark. We have tried this area before but were hoping for a better result (nearly 0 finds), as last time it was long stubble now its ploughed. After 2 hours 45 minutes we proved this was not a field worth trying again. At least we know now & I did at least fluke out a hammered.

Tudor (broken) Book Clasp
Buckle bits
Broken Scrappy Roman Coin

No buttons but a hammered... You have at least one in every field. Did You took a day off again? We changed to winter time last weekend and i hate that early darkness. Don't like to detect in the dark as wild pig season started too....

Well done on the hammered mate, but if you couldn't find much then the field must be empty:laughing7:. But you did better than me today, too much rain in the early hours of this morning, maybe better luck tomorrow:dontknow:.

It proves that no all our fields are full of history, as some think. Shows how you can be 1 field away, & miss.

Atleast you did not have to throw your back out digging hundreds of targets:icon_thumleft: To me the slow day would be worth it when the hammered showed up.

I have to spend 2 hours on a good field to get that.:laughing9: It's weird how fields, next to good sites have very little in them.:icon_scratch:

So even over there in the land of ancient abundance, a veteran detectorist goes in a field and then marks it off the map as a place "where it's not". Happens to me all the time as I go through the process of elimination trying to pinpoint the bulls eye of my research. Even so there is still a random hammered....in the fertile fields of dreams.....

It was worth it to me as well, although this Hammered will end up in the Farmers collection.

True, but you should have had a shed load more finds besides it.

It is strange, this had no more than 5 pieces of Lead,no dark soil patches, no sign of Iron Nails, not pottery shards (other than an odd roof tile piece), practically nothing.
