Went out for a few hunts in some pounded areas this weekend and managed to score another gold pocket watch! That’s 2 in a month!

this one is the most intact one I’ve found and it’s very detailed.

is there anyway of knowing if it could be real gold? I see some rust spots where the arms go. I just didn’t know if gold watches had steel on the insides.

It came clean just rinsing it off, it just scratches easy so I didn’t want to get crazy on it.

Also found a Silver Rosie on the way back to my car.

Thanks for looking!

I don't know much about watches but I would sure like to pull that one out of the ground. Nice find!

Amazing! How did it ring up (by comparison to silver)? Did you think it was gold based on the VDI?

If you could open the back up and take a picture of the inside of the back cover I could tell more about the gold. Most of the gold pocket watches are usually gold filled or rolled gold plate. Do you see any brass showing on the sharp edges of the case? If you do then it is not solid gold. Nice find anyway.

I've scrapped out a few over the yrs for the gold content and the stem/winder, loop, hinge will be other metals for strength. Looks like the back would screw off instead of popping off (hard to tell from the photo) Like stated before the inside of the back cover will tell the story of what the case is made of. Hope it's the real deal as it's looking pretty sweet from the photos.
