Hi all
waveyellow.gif

Went diggin at a saltwater cove I've searched before but still has Lots of targets
sSp_bdaycake2.gif

I have found 3 or 4 counterfeit pewter George II HPs at another site,
I think they were making them there, as some appear to be discards, with casting sprues and other
issues that would make them difficult to pass,

This one was found a couple miles from that site, but along the road from there to downtown..
it shows extra metal around the rim, talcum powder reveals Brittannia on the reverse.
It's really hard to get good pics of these, they look much better in hand.

I love the misfired 37 mm Hotchkiss autocannon round I found earlier,
this new explosive artillery round is also a keeper, it measures about 57 mm X 7 inches,
I've done some research, but can't ID it, guessing it would date 1870-1920....
Any help with Identification would be appreciated !!

Also got old flat brass & plain pewter buttons, and a civilian star button, spoon and fork,
a 'New Departure' bicycle hub, they invented the coaster hub in 1898, made bearings for motorcycles and cars,
later became part of GM.
this is a front wheel hub

Scrap baskets are almost full, time to cash in soon.
Well, I'm still looking for my Doubloon, but this was a fun hunt anyway!
Best wishes all & HH

to you!! Herbie

Here's a Pewter GII I found a couple weeks ago, seems they're pretty common here

Glad you can get out and hunt Herbie. It will be 106 deg. here in Tennessee today and the soil is like concrete. You made some great finds there Bud. HH, Quindy

Thanks all!
Q, it's killer hot here too, we haven't hit 106 yet...
Johnny, that's a couple months of copper alloy scrap, will bring a few hundred at the yard.
Anyone know about the 55 mm round with copper band?
I've found military insignia in this spot from 1870-1920, HH all!

Hi Matt, ticm and Hispan :hello:
no it's not all about finding 'treasure'...
if that is your primary goal, your interest will likely fizzle pretty quickly.
just finding 'Old Stuff', then figuring out what it is can be most enjoyable.
The 'Treasure' finds are icing on the cake.
Happy hunting everyone!

Your scrap should start making a dent in your house payments!
I'd concentrate on the area where you've been finding all the counterfeits, imagine digging up the mold!
