Found this little keeper in a park that is still putting out. Came up as 12-34 on the e-trac 9" deep.
It's engraved with the initials RE on one side and dated on the other side. Oct. 25 1903. Looks gold, maybe gold filled? No stamp that I can find.

I thought the same thing when I saw the green. When I was cleaning it the green chipped away and gold color still remained underneath it. Even at the loops.

Looks like a good item to me. Could do a scratch test to see if it passed and to see its content % Hope it is gold !

The copper-oxide bleeds from the base metal, its easy to clean off & leave the Gold plate.

That date is more likely DEC. 25 1903 if you look very closely.

Nice little find!

Check to see if it is Magnetic. Most filled pieces will be attracted to a Magnet. I always say it is good to keep a small strong magnet with you while digging. It is the first test at a pawn shop. Magnetic = not gold

Nice find!

It's not magnetic. Already put a magnet to it.

Sweet!! That's a beautiful piece. Looks like "DEC" to me too.
Apparently a Christmas gift.

If you weigh it you should be able to figure out if it's gold.
