I couldn’t resist. Remember when items like this were in every home? Yardsticks, pencils, slide out knives, calendars, fly swatters, etc.
I’m guessing late 50s to mid 60s.
Ashtrays too. My how times have changed!

Lol! I dug a good piece of one of these type can openers yesterday! I remember them for sure! Maybe still have one!

D.F. Sampson's patent of 1935 for the device that came to be called the "church key", progressively replacing the previous device of that name designed only for opening bottles with a crown cap closure:

Coincidentally, 1935 was also the year in which the Loyal Order of Moose's Iowa City Lodge 1096 was founded, although your opener isn't as old as that.

So why are they called church keys?
. Apparently bottles, especially beer bottles, were once opened with heavy, cast iron openers that resembled the same type of key used to open church doors in Europe. The name stuck even for today's modern openers.

If I remember correctly, the other side had little hooks on it that was used for opening bottles with caps on them.
Just flip yours around & it also can be used as a bottle opener. The rusty part had a dual purpose.
