Any Alpha 2000 users out there?

So I decided to sell my Tesoro Compadre and I purchased a new Alpha 2000. I know, the Compadre does find tiny gold jewelry, but I already have a Vaquero that will do that. I wanted something that won't have me digging tiny staples and stuff I can barely see. I used to own an F2 and I liked it. I and thought the Alpha seemed similar. I like the slightly higher frequency of the Alpha and the fact it takes only one 9 volt as opposed to two in the Fisher. I was hoping some Alpha users may have some input on how they like the machine (or are they all in France, lol?). How is the depth? Does the disc work well? Any user tips, observations, etc...would be very much appreciated.

The depth on mine is about nine inches in good loam-clayey soil, but sand gives me a bunch of false signals. I found my first piece of jewelry today, a hair beret, which registered under .50 cent pc. I still need to identify the metal. I myself wonder if there are tricks to the trade for this machine not covered in the manual(?). I pretty much don't use disc or notch, and largely ignore iron, because if will be hardware and I already have enough. My wedding band registers under aluminum, and no I did not get ripped off as I had it appraised by a neutral jeweler at 14K.

Sorry, I can't help with any tips! One thing though, if the wedding band is fairly lightweight, it's not uncommon for it to come up in the foil range. I have tested some gold rings on my F2 and some did bounce from pulltab to foil, some hit strong on nickel. If you want to find gold jewelry, dig all the signals from foil to zinc. Even the jumpy signals can be gold jewelry, as there are different metals combined WITH the gold unless it is 24K. I did get my Alpha, but sent it right back. They sent me the older version with push-on coil connector and only the 1/8" headphone jack. As I took it out of the box, I could hear something rolling around in the display area of the control box. Red flags. I ended up getting an F2 2-coil combo. I think the Alpha gets about 1" more depth on average, but the F2 really rocks in trashy parks with the 4" sniper coil. Try to turn the sensitivity down until the chatter/falsing stops, and make sure to turn the cellphone off as well. The 'Greek' series of Teknetics are well know for their susceptibility to EMI. Good luck and keep us posted on how it's working out for you. HH, Scott

the possiblity to find gold outside of beaches or towns is very, very low. on beaches i would digging for all signals (no hard work there). gold is historic and today a rarely material and the people keep an extra eye on it. my interest are things made from copper, silver and brass. so i'm notching out the foil and zinc range. p-tabs,s-cap and nickel i don't notching, otherwise i loose the good coins, i think.
Balls from alu foils will registred in nickel with my O8, don't have a solution for this fact.
EMI from cellphones was new for me, have tested with a nokia and a samsung smart phone (calling, switch on/out, reciving mails) - no effect. how this manifests on your device?

I love the Alpha 2000, found a small diamond ring yesterday at about 5 in. This thing loves quarters, I usually keep the sensitivity down to 3.

There is a guy on this site who has found 5 gold rings in the past year or two with his F2, mostly in parks, NONE were found at the beach. One was appraised at $1300 plus. I ALWAYS dig the pulltabs and nickels when in the parks or schools. I would hate to leave behind a ring that would pay for the detector twice over!
