just not up to a 400 mi roundtrip to chi town just now

Check out the ACE for Lake Shelbyville. The lake is administered by them, the Army Corps of Engineers. They do require permits at the site but some of those back bays hold the remains of arguably Illinois' best Chatauqua site ever.
