I dug these relics out in the woods with Kermit, Bill, and Mike on Sunday. The item in question is the cup-like item pictured. It was very deep and I thought it was a post-topper at first, until I realized it is tin or aluminum and has the word "BING?ISOLA" (??) and "Made in Germany" on the bottom. Mike said it was a little cup for drinking, and it may be, but it is very small. Maybe a kid's toy? I'm hoping Mark or Tim speak up on this.

The other items are the top of an old soap dish (I think? I really like the ornate writing style) and some lead. Thanks for any help you guys might be able to give me.

Joe

Your lead looks fairly modern ...

Bing Isola = Bing Island ...

I will look more ~ Nick

I would like to think that the lead is late 19th-early 20th century, because if that's the case, then it would support what I know about the location at which they were found. They were very isolated and away from recent human stomping grounds. Thanks.

I'll take a shot in the dark, but Karl Benz when he made cars in Germany.
His carburation for his engines was a company called Bing. Very popular carbs.
Made them for motorcycles BMW I believe Triumph also. And in the airplane field for Rotax engines from aluminum. Could not find company logo and don't know what isola is? I'm not sure if those are threads on the inside for screwing down onto something? Maybe that might get you someplace on that "cup".

Interesting finds, Joe. First thing I thought of when I saw the "cup" was that it sure looks similar to my old Model T hubcap I found. It was threaded with fine turned threads, though. Whatever it is, I think the logo was meant to be seen when it is being used, and not on the bottom. Trash n cash's idea sure sounds plausible.

Looks pretty close John! Maybe part of some picnic or beverage package that came with an old Benz?

The bullets all look fairly modern, but that is a relative term. You'd have to measure that buckshot to get it's size but it looks like you've a 000 pellet there. That's a whopper! Here's a quick and dirty buckshot sizing guide for you;
Shot Pellet Diameter Average Pellet
Number (Inches) Weight (Grains)
4 0.24 20.6
3 0.25 23.4
2 0.27 29.4
1 0.3 40
0 0.32 48.3
00 0.33 53.8
000 0.36 68

When were these types of ammunition regularly used?

All the bullets are from cased ammo. You'd have to see their respective diameters to get an idea of the caliber. Then you'd only be able to approximately date unique or obsolete calibers. Barring that, they could have been fired anytime in the last 100 years or so.

If that's triple 0 buckshot, not sure if it's still used but double 0 is still widely available but the date range would be about the same.

Hey Joe, Don't know about the cup but I found the exact same soap container (from the 50's). I would guess you found a boy scout or camp site. HH

Thanks. I want to say the place we went to was (and still is) used by everyone for everything, based on the amount of trash present. Boy Scouts used the area, as well as off-roaders, hunters, partiers, hikers, and gay Germans.

The gay German reference is somewhat of an inside joke.

Joe
