Hey fellow tnetter’s. Been lurking, not detecting. Finally got out for a bit during end of storm today. Got a 1935 mercury dime and this. I think it is old but would like to hear from the people in the know. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and happy hunting!

As I watched the news last night and saw the waves crashing in MA, I told my wife there'd be a lot of guys out MDing the coast today. I was busy trying to clear away 5" of ice / snow mix. It was like concrete. Nice finds.

Nice relic recovery! :occasion14:

They're usually referred to as shingling hatchet or roofing hatchet. They still make them today looking pretty much the same so it's tough to nail down a specific date range. I just found my first of those last month at an 1840's to 1860's site for example. Associated finds at your site might give you a better idea of the approximate date so definitely keep hunting there!

Thank you
