Any way to date axe head?

That ax head is similar to others from Civil War sites. There are examples on a Liberty Museum website which show axes from a large union army camp. If there is not a makers mark then it gets tougher to determine much about date and place of manufacture. You might clean it and read the makers mark. Refer to Treasurenet forum on cleaning iron. I need to clean a few ax heads too.
