Maybe try here for starters.
Mineral collecting at Caledonia Mine
I have been going up to the Keweenaw since 1968 and hunting around the old mine areas looking for Copper.
Many of the rock piles are now owned by construction companies that crush the rock for gravel so many places are now off limits.
The first week of August a local club sells entry into some of the mining areas and the pits are rough up to expose untouched portions of rock piles.
If you are going on your own, The area called the Cliffs and Phoenix are the best bets for exploration.
Last summer was the first time I use a Metal Detector and it was well worth the effort. Saved a lot of time
My Compadre was great for this task and was much lighter hauling around the rock piles all day
