Defiance made a lot of tools .. my guess is that it is off of one of their tools.

The first thing that comes to mind, is the Eagle coming after the mouse, and the mouse flipping off the eagle in "Defiance". I think it started in the late 70's.
Is your piece cast iron? It may have been a novelty item, with the mouse in a cage...(?) Beats me.
Otherwise, it may have something to do with Defiance, Ohio.
