i have only ever found a artifact that depicted a sun image ,it was a steatite gorget (soapstone),this is no gorget, but very cool, i cant honestly say i have an idea ,but i like it, definiately think about showing it to someone in anthro at the closest university .
Welcome new guy kevin ,instead of the where did you find it? where you from? I am saying your rounded edges are from a modern grinder or belt sander ........you got any reeeel artifacts to share?
Welcome to the site Kevin. But I would like to see a clean photo with a camera cant really see a thing due to it being blurry. It would truly help with a clean pic to see if it is the pic making it look different from what it might be. Thanks, rock
Although I'm not opposed to believing it is a modern rock, although where it was found seems differently to me but no-one can say how it got where it did when I found it. Real or not either way I appreciate the feedback, exactly what I was hoping for on the site. So I'm happy
it hard to tell from a picture, those tiny lines all over the rock seem to go all the way through it,thanks for sharing it could be real,im still looking for ancient art on stone sure is hard to find round here.take it to an artifact show for an id,the edge does not look right with the two planes showing together on the right hand side showing in the pic. but i know very little.
It looks as if something or someone made those hash marks. As far as it being an artifact I do not know. I have never put a stone to a grinder or wire wheel so I would not know if that is what caused the hash marks. Ancient man was pretty precise when grinding an item down and they did score it to a certain depth to polish it down. But that is usually after they had the desired shape pecked out. The shape does not resemble an artifact.. Did any of that make sense?
Welcome to the site though and keep posting.
