Sand is silica. 27% of the earth crust. Pebbles would need to be analyzed to see what they are made up of.
Lime stone is common as is granite. Granite is a conglomerate of feldspar, mica, quartz mostly but very hard compared to limestone.
Pebbles often have fossils in them.
