Function of scaling of course. Some of the numbered VDI type machines use different scales to represent the target categories. Some have a range that includes negative numbers, some do not. Your user manual should tell you what visual id or numeric range most target categories fall under. Foil range will be wider than nickel, but may encompass it on some, screw cap on others. Put some targets on the ground and include junk and see how your machine reacts. Pay close attention to the range(s) of gold/nickel/foil and pulltabs.

thanks most people on here keep telling us new ones to read the manual and re read it....Its the best advice i pick mind up every so often and figure out a little more because it makes a little more sense....and the same goes for those test strips which i now see the importance of and will begin using them it should help
