I think the coon is trying to get the rope from around its neck! :( They can be SUCH a nuisance, but yet they're so cute. I've caught them in my cat food bin (out back around the chicken coop), and although I'll "dismiss" a possum, I can't make myself "dismiss" a raccoon. They're just too much like cats to me, and I have a bucketload of those. And they're so smart.

Years ago we lived in a neighborhood where we were advised just to leave some bread out for them in the evenings. Watching, we'd see whole families of raccoons come down from the hills and invade the neighborhood, taking the bread and leaving. One neighbor came home at night and his car lights caught 3 at work: 1 was in the garbage can, sans lid, handing out the food bits to his buddy on top of the next can, who was handing it over to the next buddy on the ground, who was stockpiling it. Who could wish harm on those? :) :)

Glad to see you did it humanely. They can be very destructive! :) Thank you! -Noodle

Noodle,

My youngest is a caregiver for the local Wildlife Coalition and she rescued a nest of baby oppossums a fews years back. She kept one a bit longer that the others. That critter made a great pet! Erin bathed the beastie once a week and its fur grew in long and luxurious. It was east to litter train and super docile. They tend to be super clean when allowed to be. Finally let it go in the swamps.
