so several months back I got a few peace dollars off ebay for a good price, couldnt tell by the pictures they had toning. im positive its artifical, and since they werent key dates and I didnt care, I didnt make a fuss about it, they were for the silver and the coin themselves. what do yall think about it, attraction or deterrent? dont care? im not sure what to think. 2 are rainbow toned and a third is blue...

Generally I don't mind artificially toned junk silver. After all, I'd rather rainbow tone to just a generic white (or blackened) coin, heck, I'd even pay a tiny premium for one over just straight junk silver.

Of course on high-grade or rare coins, I'd much rather it be natural and I might not buy an artificially toned coin like that without a steep discount.

Can you post pictures so that we can weigh in on whether we think they exhibit artificial/natural toning?

Like Generic_Lad mentioned, I don't mind AT junk silver so long as it isn't too excessive. There are some out there that have been taken to an extreme. Of course, on coins with a numismatic premium, I wouldn't buy unless it is appropriately discounted depending on how excessive the toning.

^+1 I think artificial toning is just bad bad bad. I want natural coins. Artificial toning = damaged and damaged in my book = no collectors value therefore through the transitive property artificial toning = no collectors value.

makes sense. however, like clearly previously stated, it is junk silver. toning doesnt alter silver content.

Whether it is artificial toning or not and the coins being common date Peace Dollars, it should have very little effect on their' value and probably even collectibilty!
