Asparagus -- Who knew?

My Mom had been taking the full-stalk canned style
asparagus, pureed it and took 4 tablespoons in
the morning and 4 tablespoons later in the day. She did
this for over a month. She is on chemo pills for Stage 3
lung cancer in the pleural area and her cancer cell
count went from 386 down to 125 as of this past week.
Her oncologist said she will not need to see him for 3
months.

THE ARTICLE:
Several years ago I met a man seeking asparagus for a
friend who had cancer. He gave me a copy of an article,
entitled "Asparagus For Cancer" printed in the
Cancer News Journal, December 1979. I will share it
here, just as it was shared with me: I am a
biochemist, and have specialized in the relation of diet
to health or over 50 years. Several years ago, I learned
of the discovery of Richard R. Vensal, D.D.S. that
asparagus might cure cancer. Since then, I have worked
with him on his project. We have accumulated a number
of favorable case histories. Here are a few examples:

Case No. 1, A man with an almost hopeless case
of Hodgkin's disease (cancer of the lymph glands) who
was completely incapacitated. Within 1 year of starting
the asparagus therapy, his doctors were unable to
detect any signs of cancer, and he was back on a
schedule of strenuous exercise.

Case No. 2, A successful businessman, 68 years old,
suffered from cancer of the bladder for 16 years.
After years of medical treatments, including radiation
without improvement, he began taking asparagus. Within 3
months, examinations revealed that his bladder tumor
had disappeared and that his kidneys were normal.

Case No. 3, On March 5th 1971, a man who had lung
cancer was put on the operating table where they found
lung cancer so widely spread that it was inoperable.
The surgeon sewed him up and declared his case
hopeless. On April 5th he heard about the Asparagus
therapy and immediately started taking it. By August,
x-ray pictures revealed that all signs of the cancer had
disappeared. He is now back at his regular business
routine.

Case No. 4, A woman had been troubled for a number of
years with skin cancer. She developed different skin cancers
which were diagnosed by the acting specialist as advanced.
Within 3 months after beginning asparagus therapy, the skin specialist said her skin looked fine with no more skin lesions. This woman reported that the asparagus therapy also cured her
kidney disease, which had started in 1949. She had over 10
operations for kidney stones, and was receiving government disability payments for an inoperable, terminal, kidney condition.
She attributes the cure of this kidney trouble entirely to the asparagus treatment.

I was not surprised at this result as `The elements of
materia medica', edited in1854 by a Professor at the
University of Pennsylvania , stated that asparagus was
used as a popular remedy for kidney stones. He even
referred to experiments, in 1739, on the power of
asparagus in dissolving stones. Note the dates!
We would have other case histories but the medical
establishment has interfered with our obtaining some
of the records. I am therefore appealing to readers to
spread this good news and help us to gather a large
number of case histories that will overwhelm the
medical skeptics about this unbelievably simple and
natural remedy.

For the treatment, asparagus should be cooked
before using. Fresh or canned asparagus can be
used. I have corresponded with the two leading caners of asparagus, Giant and Stokely, and I am satisfied that these brands contain no pesticides or preservatives. Place the cooked asparagus in a blender and liquefy to make a puree. Store in the refrigerator. Give the patient 4 full tablespoons twice daily, morning and evening. Patients usually show some improvement in 2-4 weeks. It can be diluted with water and used as a cold or hot drink. This suggested dosage is based on present experience, but certainly larger amounts can do no harm and may be needed in some cases.
As a biochemist I am convinced of the old saying that `what
cures can prevent.' Based on this theory, my wife and I
have been using asparagus puree as a beverage with
our meals. We take 2 tablespoons diluted in water to
suit our taste with breakfast and with dinner. I take
mine hot and my wife prefers hers cold. For years we
have made it a practice to have blood surveys taken as
part of our regular checkups. The last blood survey,
taken by a medical doctor who specializes in the
nutritional approach to health, showed substantial
improvements in all categories over the last one, and
we can attribute these improvements to nothing but
the asparagus drink. As a biochemist, I have made an extensive study of all aspects of cancer, and all of the proposed cures. As a
result, I am convinced that asparagus fits in better
with the latest theories about cancer.

Asparagus contains a good supply of protein called
histones, which are believed to be active in controlling
cell growth. For that reason, I believe asparagus can
be said to contain a substance that I call cell growth
normalizer. That accounts for its action on cancer and
in acting as a general body tonic. In any event,
regardless of theory, asparagus used as we suggest, is
a harmless substance. The FDA cannot prevent you
from using it and it may do you much good. It has
been reported by the US National Cancer Institute, that
asparagus is the highest tested food containing
glutathione, which is considered one of the body's
most potent anticarcinogens and antioxidants.

Just a side note... In case you are wondering why this has
not been made public, there is no profit in curing cancer!

Deep,

I have always thought that Mother Nature , and our mind are the two best curative factors in life. Most of todays medicines are derived from the plants found in nature, and that is why a portion of my business is called," Natures Bounty". We can feed and heal ourselves from what we find in nature, or from the fresh produce stand. Again you have made an insightful post, and hope that many will realize that to a certain extent we can take care of ourselves, and that is only enhanced by a positive mental attitude. Great job....Gary

I'm 76 and have a kidney problem the doctor keeps worrying about. I'm going to try the asparagus.

I have a congenital kidney disorder - a diverticullum of the left kidney (essentially most of the kidney is an open on one end cyst full of stones). Was diagnosed in '82 after continuing infections. Spent 6 years as an outpatient at the Cleveland Clinic - world renowned as kidney experts. Nothing helped. Infections continued until '94 - could not sleep through the night and painful, darned near pass out trying to start a stream.

With the Internet spreading, I started doing my own research. Lived in Metro-Detroit then. Tried to discuss alternate remedies with my urologist at the time - and he said "I suggest you find a new urologist".

In my research I read about Chinese herbal medicines, and chose Kai Kit Wan.

Two weeks and I was sleeping through the night, six weeks, and now I've been completely infection free for 19 years.

I guess it was pretty good that I was fired by my urologist :)

Thanks for posting this. It always amazes me when. I read about how natives and our forefathers foraged for food and herbs that were healing.

WARNING! Asparagus is high in purines (which metabolize to uric acid). Harmless for most people. But if you have gout or urate urinary tract stones, asparagus can put you in big hurt.

My first episode of gouty arthritis was caused by pigging out on asparagus.

Foxfire series should be read by everyone! I have all 12 books, I've had them twice -ex got them in the divorce the first time. It is absolutely amazing what can be learned there. And if you're a Prepper, that's where you should start first.

Another thing people should be looking at is juicing....

I got into that by accident (kinda) 13 years ago. I met this gal you see......

Well, she was vegan....

On our first date we met at a health food restaurant. And me, I felt my normal self - average. She was cute, so I did want to impress her.

We're standing at the counter and this gal asked me if I wanted a juice from the menu above. Well, wanting to make a real impression, over on the end they offered something named "Mega Green", which was with seaweeds, grasses, that sort of thing. And I asked for the largest size, of course.

About a half hour later, I suddenly felt completely different! I wanted to jump up and down, wanted to dance, and I sure was more attracted to my date :P

After that I then completely understood the value of nutrition in our lives, bought 9 different type juicing machines looking for the one with less prep and clean-up time. Now I have two - gave the others away to people I wanted to experience what I'd discovered. I have a hand cranked "grass" squeezer, and a Champion crusher.

I do need to keep focus on that, they often collect dust. The experience of reality, you're looking at pushing 2 hours to do a juicing - vegetable or fruit prep, doing the deed, and then clean-up.

But it makes an absolute difference in the way you feel and the youth you keep. I am 64, did a 5k obstacle course the first of June, and everyone thinks I'm in my 40's. Look back at Jack LaLane !!!

Since I was on a roll here, I'll mention another trick....

I read a book by a physiologist some years ago.... So, I tried one of the things the lady said about intestinal parasites = we worm our pets, but not ourselves. My grandmother "wormed" me when I was a child - she was a true mountain woman from the old days.

The book said we should find "Black Walnut Extract" - not the condiment from Kroger, but the real deal from a health food stores. And that stuff will turn your mouth inside out = bitter!

Instructions said take 10 drops in a glass of water, three times a day. After the first glass I really looked forward to the next ones :(

On the 9th day, I turned to flush the toilet and there was a rather large critter in the range of being a tapeworm or something.....

The parasites hurt us in two ways. They steal nutrition from us, and their excretions are poisonous to us. Every wonder why you feel kinda blah a lot of the time?

I finished that regime, and repeated it every year for some time, got lazy, but then did it again last year - didn't find anything. My oldest daughter did it this year, and there was a critter in the bowl afterwards - she was totally grossed out, and now she is a believer.

Gee, did the medical community ever tell us anything like that? They laugh at us.....

Great thread, let's see what I can contribute.
I have always felt that my body tells me what it needs. I have cravings for various foods at different times. I figure that once my body has experienced a food, it knows what it can do. I might go thru 6 cans of asparagus each month. Another thing that my body has craved recently is baked beans. I don't question it's demands and it's changing requests. There is one thing that turned out to be bad for me. I use to like liver and onions. On a trip to Flordia It happened to be the special a restaurants that I stopped at for breakfast, lunch, and supper, so I had it for 3 meals straight and had to go to the hospital the next morning with suvere pain from a kidney stone. The doctor said," Never eat liver again." and I haven't eaten it again or had another stone.
I have an old VitaMix 3200 super blender that I use for everything from grinding my coffee to juicing. It's the best one I have even seen, even the new model which is made of plastic. Another thing I kind of overindulge in is coffee. 6 or 8 cups a day is my usual consumption. I have been drinking coffee since about 6 years old, and I am now 76, yes, up there with BosmMate. Oh here's a wierd note, when I was a kid I use to love spinach mixed with mash potatoes.
Frank...

Hey Gang!! Very interesting posts, and woof's! note above is quite true. Individuals who have some previous renal compromise certainly are more subject to developing flourid Gout, but it is interesting DeepseekerADS apparently didnot even with his renal status!! I had to dance with the Devil, Adenocarcinoma of the colon, with subsequent Right Colectomy, fortunately no node involvement, thus no chemo or radiation, but one can only anticipate the future, thus my personal interest!! In any event thanks to DeepseekerADS, woof!, and my buddy Frankn!! If you guys have any further knowledge I would appreciate your sharing!! GOOD HUNTING!! VERDE!!

If more of the medical community were instructed in the ways that the Native Americans, and Chinese have survived, we would have a much healthier and have more of our money in our pocket. My Grandmother lived to be 98, and had a tonic of hot water, vinegar, and lemon every morning instead of coffee. I gather wild ramps, fiddleheads( very similar to asparagus), greens and mushrooms, all very healthy and healthy food. Raw onions lower cholesterol, garlic the same, along with controlling blood pressure,( good natural insect repellent also), and on and on. Our minds, and the desire not to be sick, along with taking care of what we ingest, will ensure long healthy lives. Most of my food comes from fish and game I have processed myself, wild edibles and home grown or local produce, and ( knock on wood), haven,t been sick in over 25 years. Not bragging but stating how we can take care of ourselves if allowed to, and these arts of our ancestors are not being handed down to the younger generations who are the ones in need of a more healthy livestyle. Enough from me....Great topic, thanks Deep

We're getting some pretty darned good info here, an excellent post to follow.

Let me explain in a very simple description why juicing is the greatest!

Okay, as I understand it, say you like carrots.... Nutritionists believe that the body will only absorb around 15% of the nutrients eating, chewing, digesting a carrot.

On the other hand, nutritionists estimate that we absorb up to 90% of the nutrients when we juice them.

It takes 4 large carrots to juice an 8 ounce glass of carrot juice. To get that kind of nutrition in one setting, you'd have to eat, chew, swallow somewhere in the neighborhood of 32 large carrots.... If I did that I don't think I would eat another carrot in my life again.

Now, on the Vitamix!!! Frankn, I've got one too, not sure of the model, I'm not at my trailer home right now, at my real home. It's circa 1969 and is an absolute beast!!! Picked it up at a Salvation Army some years ago for around $75. Goes great with my juicers :)

And for anyone who is thinking about picking up a juicer, having tested many - here's a tip:

A $40 Juiceman Junior does just a good a job as a $200 Jack LaLane one - in the class of "centrifugal" juicers.... I've had both, and other similar ones of the centrifugal class.

That's a pretty impressive ratio Deep!! I will certainly give it a try, never used one before, any suggestions!! By the way GMD52, my Grandmother was Caddo Indian and they pretty much lived out of their garden, very healthy people. Wouldn't you know it, when she died it was secondary to blood clot which evolved while in the hospital, one of the few times she had ever been hospitalized!! Yea, I know, we all are living longer, but sometimes you wonder to what avail!! GOOD HUNTING and Thanks to ALL of you!! VERDE!!
